The Ugly Chair

Information
Outdoor seating made from construction-site leftovers
Description
The Ugly Chair began as a spontaneous idea when I noticed a pile of discarded pipes from the construction site next door. They were sturdy, full of character, and destined for the trash. I am drawn to contrasts, so I asked myself: What if something considered ugly could be turned into something beautiful?

By using these industrial remnants, I wanted to challenge our ideas of aesthetics and value. The chair exists in a space between utility and art, between rough and refined. Its materials bear the marks of labor and imperfection, yet they are reassembled into an object meant for comfort and gathering.

The Ugly Chair asks:
Can beauty come from what we throw away?
Do labels like “ugly” and “beautiful” say more about the object, or about us?
Is transformation a matter of materials, or of perception?
